Joshua Aaron

Joshua Aaron accepted Yeshua as a boy of five and never let go of the calling that came with it—to sing of the Messiah to the world. The hope of a returning Messiah steadies him still decades later as he and his wife raise five children in Israel and watch two of them serve through war.

FAQs

His father gave him a direct answer: “You can know where you’re going when you die. You’re going to go to heaven—but you have to know the Savior.” So Joshua sat on the washing machine while his dad prayed with him. He was five years old. He said, “God, I believe in you. I believe in your Son.” The next day, he woke up changed and started singing from that very day. He said, “There was this feeling that He came into my life, and now my life is transformed forever.”

The discovery of his Jewish identity led him directly to Yeshua. He said, “When I say discovery, really the arrival was discovering who Jesus was.” His Orthodox grandmother would put a kippah on him and say “You’re Jewish. Your mother is Jewish. Don’t you forget you’re Jewish.” His mother had accepted Messiah just before he was born. For Joshua, the two were never separate—being Jewish and knowing Yeshua were part of the same discovery.

1
00:00:00.120 –> 00:00:03.800
I even remember one time I was on the Mount of Olives, filming our

2
00:00:03.920 –> 00:00:07.740
last scene of a song and trying to bring this message to the

3
00:00:07.800 –> 00:00:11.540
nations from Jerusalem, when I hear shouts of “Allahu

4
00:00:11.600 –> 00:00:15.280
Akbar” from the distance, and before I know it, I’m getting hit by

5
00:00:15.400 –> 00:00:15.820
rocks.

6
00:00:17.560 –> 00:00:21.500
My mother was Jewish Israeli. My dad was from a local

7
00:00:21.540 –> 00:00:25.340
family, and his father worked in the coal mines his whole life up in north of

8
00:00:25.360 –> 00:00:27.740
Scranton, Pennsylvania, just outside the Poconos.

9
00:00:27.980 –> 00:00:30.510
My Orthodox grandmother, we’d visit her on the holidays.

10
00:00:31.050 –> 00:00:33.750
She’d put the kippah and say, “You’re Jewish. Your mother is Jewish.

11
00:00:34.120 –> 00:00:37.640
Don’t you forget you’re Jewish.” So my mom didn’t want to be a Christian.

12
00:00:37.700 –> 00:00:41.060
She loved my dad, but Christianity was for the Gentiles, not for the Jews.

13
00:00:41.300 –> 00:00:45.220
I’m the baby of five, so my older siblings got to experience the big difference

14
00:00:45.280 –> 00:00:49.160
between having a Catholic father and a Jewish Israeli mother.

15
00:00:49.220 –> 00:00:52.870
But for me, it was different because my mother had, just one year before I was

16
00:00:52.900 –> 00:00:56.000
born, had accepted Messiah as her personal savior.

17
00:00:56.100 –> 00:00:59.600
None of my friends, who were mostly Catholic, had met a Jewish person, really,

18
00:00:59.680 –> 00:01:03.080
because we’re this small town. It was interesting navigating or hearing people tell

19
00:01:03.160 –> 00:01:06.710
jokes about my people. I’m like, “Why are they making fun of Jewish people?” It

20
00:01:06.740 –> 00:01:09.100
started a discovery for me, to discover who I was.

21
00:01:11.300 –> 00:01:14.990
When I say discovery, really the arrival was

22
00:01:15.020 –> 00:01:18.970
discovering who Jesus was. I remember as a small child,

23
00:01:19.000 –> 00:01:22.940
my parents had just got saved before I was born, but I remember thinking, “Man,

24
00:01:23.780 –> 00:01:27.300
what happens if I die? Where am I going to go when I die?” And I remember my dad

25
00:01:27.420 –> 00:01:29.960
saying, “Well, you can know where you’re going to go when you die.

26
00:01:30.020 –> 00:01:33.780
You’re going to go to heaven, but you have to know the Savior.” So I remember

27
00:01:33.860 –> 00:01:37.520
sitting up on the washing machine, and my dad prayed with me, and I

28
00:01:37.660 –> 00:01:40.620
remember sincerely, I’m like, “God, I believe in you.

29
00:01:40.820 –> 00:01:44.280
I believe in your Son.” So I was five when I accepted Jesus,

30
00:01:44.660 –> 00:01:47.380
and I remember that next day, I was changed.

31
00:01:47.500 –> 00:01:50.660
I started singing songs from that very next day.

32
00:01:52.520 –> 00:01:56.500
So when I came to grips with the salvation of Jesus, of

33
00:01:56.540 –> 00:02:00.480
Yeshua, it did something. Even though in my young brain,

34
00:02:00.830 –> 00:02:04.440
there was this truth that just hit me, not in the knowledge

35
00:02:04.540 –> 00:02:08.521
part of who Jesus was. It hit me in my heart, like there was this

36
00:02:08.920 –> 00:02:12.640
feeling that He came into my life, and now my life is transformed

37
00:02:12.700 –> 00:02:13.020
forever.

38
00:02:14.780 –> 00:02:18.660
So I started that journey and realized all I want to do is sing

39
00:02:18.700 –> 00:02:22.500
about Him. But the chances of anybody becoming a singer as a

40
00:02:22.540 –> 00:02:23.260
vocation is

41
00:02:24.260 –> 00:02:28.180
very slim. By the grace of God, in 2009, I put out an album, a small

42
00:02:28.200 –> 00:02:29.700
little album in Hebrew and English.

43
00:02:30.260 –> 00:02:34.080
And thank God, about that time is when YouTube had just become

44
00:02:34.160 –> 00:02:37.680
a platform to share music, and I just

45
00:02:37.760 –> 00:02:40.600
realized, “Hey, I can share the goodness of God.

46
00:02:40.680 –> 00:02:43.560
I can share the greatness of Him through His Son through music.”

47
00:02:44.400 –> 00:02:47.920
And I went all in. I leaned all in. I did one

48
00:02:47.960 –> 00:02:51.340
particular song called “How Great Is Our God.” I’d heard it

49
00:02:51.400 –> 00:02:55.360
in English and in several other languages, but I just felt in my heart,

50
00:02:55.530 –> 00:02:59.519
“I need to record this and share this to the world.” And in 2011,

51
00:02:59.570 –> 00:03:03.040
we put out a music video called “Gadol Elohai” and filmed it in

52
00:03:03.100 –> 00:03:06.960
Jerusalem, and it’s since, I think, garnered something like 30

53
00:03:07.000 –> 00:03:10.880
million views or something like that on YouTube. And I thought, “This is amazing.

54
00:03:10.960 –> 00:03:14.390
I don’t have to even go to them. I can bring the music to them.” And

55
00:03:14.720 –> 00:03:18.020
every penny I had, I put into the first album, then the next album.

56
00:03:18.060 –> 00:03:21.630
My wife and I lived very simply. The projects just got bigger and

57
00:03:21.720 –> 00:03:25.380
bigger and bigger, until we ended up at the Tower of David in

58
00:03:25.440 –> 00:03:26.080
Jerusalem.

59
00:03:27.400 –> 00:03:30.940
I had the privilege of traveling the world and sharing my faith with the

60
00:03:30.960 –> 00:03:34.740
nations. And the times someone comes up and says, “My Jewish family member

61
00:03:34.800 –> 00:03:38.180
accepted Messiah through your music,” is one of the most rewarding things, and I’m

62
00:03:38.220 –> 00:03:41.420
just so honored to get to use music to share the good news.

63
00:03:50.120 –> 00:04:03.700
It’s

64
00:04:03.710 –> 00:04:07.190
always awkward filming music videos. We filmed in the Garden Tomb.

65
00:04:07.220 –> 00:04:11.020
We had to have a whole troop of soldiers because it was during Ramadan, and there

66
00:04:11.040 –> 00:04:14.990
was threats that we might get disrupted, and these young teenagers

67
00:04:15.120 –> 00:04:18.459
didn’t want to hear us singing in Hebrew, so they were throwing rocks at us,

68
00:04:18.780 –> 00:04:22.460
shouting, “Allahu Akbar.” And we were just kind to them and just said, “Hey, we

69
00:04:22.530 –> 00:04:26.120
come in peace.” And I talked to an Arab man that was there, and

70
00:04:26.180 –> 00:04:30.120
he was from that area, and he actually helped us walk them away

71
00:04:30.160 –> 00:04:33.520
from literally trying to stone us while we were singing a song.

72
00:04:33.960 –> 00:04:35.880
The love of Yeshua is so true to me.

73
00:04:37.020 –> 00:04:40.600
You think about world religions that are emerging right now,

74
00:04:41.040 –> 00:04:45.000
and one particular where a Messiah type has come and taught us to pick up

75
00:04:45.060 –> 00:04:48.600
a sword and to grow by the sword. Well, the love of Yeshua is the

76
00:04:48.700 –> 00:04:52.280
opposite. He taught us that to love is to lay one’s life

77
00:04:52.600 –> 00:04:54.080
down, not to take a life,

78
00:04:55.080 –> 00:04:56.700
and I see that in the life of Messiah.

79
00:04:57.040 –> 00:05:00.980
He gave His life not only for me, but even for those who persecute people like

80
00:05:01.020 –> 00:05:01.150
me.

81
00:05:02.380 –> 00:05:04.340
As I mentioned, my mom was born and raised in Israel.

82
00:05:04.380 –> 00:05:08.360
She was born in January of 1948, and during the War of Independence, she was

83
00:05:08.420 –> 00:05:12.320
separated from her brother. Time went on, and we ended up going on a television

84
00:05:12.400 –> 00:05:16.160
show. On this show was my mom and brother Micha, telling his story

85
00:05:16.240 –> 00:05:19.760
of surviving the Six Days War in 1967 as an Israeli

86
00:05:19.820 –> 00:05:23.460
soldier. But also the big part of his memory was being

87
00:05:23.520 –> 00:05:27.350
separated from his baby sister. The host looked at my Uncle Micha, my

88
00:05:27.400 –> 00:05:31.280
mom’s brother, “Micha, before you go, we do have something special for you

89
00:05:31.320 –> 00:05:35.020
today. In the audience is your baby sister, Chana.”

90
00:05:35.340 –> 00:05:38.350
My mother walks out to meet her brother after 50 years.

91
00:05:38.420 –> 00:05:41.700
I’m sitting there with my sister in the audience. It was jarring.

92
00:05:41.720 –> 00:05:45.320
It was beautiful. I spent the next few weeks exploring this land

93
00:05:45.360 –> 00:05:49.310
and realized that the miracles, in all my studies,

94
00:05:49.340 –> 00:05:52.220
the miracles of Israel, there’s never been a land that was

95
00:05:53.140 –> 00:05:56.980
separated. The people were scattered for 2,000 years, but brought back again.

96
00:05:57.040 –> 00:06:00.980
And what opened my eyes and almost hurt my heart was to realize at

97
00:06:01.040 –> 00:06:04.124
that pointThat the majority of Israel was secular.

98
00:06:04.224 –> 00:06:07.104
They didn’t realize that God was behind all of this.

99
00:06:07.164 –> 00:06:10.914
It started this journey with me to start sharing what I believe with the rest of

100
00:06:10.924 –> 00:06:11.444
the country.

101
00:06:15.484 –> 00:06:19.104
When you move to Israel, it’s compulsory to serve in the military.

102
00:06:19.224 –> 00:06:23.084
So when you bring your four kids and then later have another, a fifth, in

103
00:06:23.144 –> 00:06:26.004
Israel, it gets real when your kids are

104
00:06:26.044 –> 00:06:28.904
required to join the Israeli Defense Forces.

105
00:06:29.604 –> 00:06:33.544
Well, for my wife and I, it was a difficult season because not only were

106
00:06:33.564 –> 00:06:37.464
our kids about to join the IDF, they ended up, two of our eldest

107
00:06:37.524 –> 00:06:40.304
kids joined during the Iron Swords War.

108
00:06:40.384 –> 00:06:44.284
My daughter was a tatbit hanitz, which is really like

109
00:06:44.344 –> 00:06:47.864
a watcher, border security, border intelligence, watching the

110
00:06:47.884 –> 00:06:51.604
borders. And she served for one year before the war

111
00:06:51.704 –> 00:06:54.804
broke out in 2023, and she served another year

112
00:06:55.764 –> 00:06:58.644
during that war, and we were so worried for her safety.

113
00:06:58.724 –> 00:07:01.064
We were so worried for all of our soldiers.

114
00:07:02.504 –> 00:07:06.344
Four days after she gets out, our son Shuki goes in, and he becomes

115
00:07:06.884 –> 00:07:10.754
a part of the Army Corps of Engineers and ends up spending many days

116
00:07:10.784 –> 00:07:14.084
in Gaza working to bring our hostages home.

117
00:07:14.784 –> 00:07:18.224
I was on the floor so many days crying, asking God to help.

118
00:07:18.264 –> 00:07:21.604
So it was a terrible time, a difficult time for my wife and I.

119
00:07:22.064 –> 00:07:25.524
But to watch them go through that and standing firm in their faith, and I believe

120
00:07:26.224 –> 00:07:29.004
our faith in the midst of all of it, is what carried us through.

121
00:07:29.764 –> 00:07:32.404
Why did I want to return to Israel, my mother’s home country?

122
00:07:32.884 –> 00:07:35.824
Well, I am a follower of the greatest rabbi that ever lived.

123
00:07:36.124 –> 00:07:39.544
So I wanted to raise my kids where my rabbi raised his 12

124
00:07:39.584 –> 00:07:42.654
disciples along the shores of the Sea of Galilee.

125
00:07:43.144 –> 00:07:46.984
So for me, I believe that we are all in an era

126
00:07:47.064 –> 00:07:50.594
of the fullness of the nations, as the Bible calls it, New Testament says it as

127
00:07:50.644 –> 00:07:54.184
well, the fullness of the Gentiles.

128
00:07:54.264 –> 00:07:58.104
That means there’s a time where the good news that is a Jewish good news that

129
00:07:58.164 –> 00:08:02.084
came from the Jewish country, Israel, in the Middle East, the good news

130
00:08:02.104 –> 00:08:06.004
has gone out to the nations. He said, “You will not see me again, dot, dot,

131
00:08:06.084 –> 00:08:10.064
dot, until you, Israel, and until Jerusalem, till you say,

132
00:08:10.364 –> 00:08:14.344
‘Baruch haba b’shem Adonai.’ Blessed is he who comes

133
00:08:14.864 –> 00:08:18.404
in the name of the Lord.” So we have a great hope. We keep celebrating the feast.

134
00:08:18.464 –> 00:08:22.184
We keep living that out because we believe a Messiah is coming back as the Jewish

135
00:08:22.264 –> 00:08:24.384
savior, but he’s coming back to Israel.

136
00:08:24.824 –> 00:08:28.224
And I believe that if you read the book from Genesis to Revelation, you’ll see

137
00:08:28.284 –> 00:08:30.824
that same thing spelled out clearly.

138
00:08:30.844 –> 00:08:34.465
We have a hope because our Messiah shall return one day soon.
